POCO European project is looking for developing new composite materials with carbon nano-tubes, and which have special properties. These composites will find multiple applications in automobiles, aeronautics, infrastructures or biomedicine sectors such as , for example, lighter structural elements for bridge construction or reduction of wear and tear in materials for aeronautic.
Tekniker-IK4, Eibar-based technology centre, is heading and co-ordinating this project; other big enterprises such as EADS, Fiat and Acciona are also involved with this project. POCO project the Basque centre is leading a consortium of 17 bodies. Members of the project come from nine different countries, amongst them Germany, France, Italy, and Argentina.
Tekniker-IK4 is also engaged in a number of activities in other areas too through its Department of Manufacturing Processes, like the chemical functionalisation of nano-tubes, and is also leading the block on modelling. The Centre also is studying the behaviour of materials in contact with nanotubes and analysing their life cycle.
