AE Biofuels & Merrick sign agreement to implement Enzyme based Technology

IP News

AE Biofuels Inc. has signed a strategic agreement with Merrick & Company for commercial implementation of AE Biofuels' patent-pending technology. It is an enzyme-based technology for the conversion of non-food biomass into ethanol and other materials. Both the companies will work together, under the agreement, to design new biofuels facilities or improve existing biofuels facilities to make them utilize the enzyme technology in more efficient way.

"Our approach addresses the growing demand for advanced biofuels at both existing and new ethanol facilities. We think this flexibility will allow us to better serve the immediate needs of the biofuels industry." Eric McAfee, Chairman and CEO, AE Biofuels

The first step is to deploy AE Biofuels’ technology in the cellulosic ethanol industry as demand for the fuel, created by the revised Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS), is beginning to increase. The RFS has increased to 36 billion gallons of renewable fuels under the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, the majority of which would be met by advanced biofuels.

“We are excited to team up with Merrick, a world-class organization with deep experience in both refining and biofuels, to work with customers to rapidly deploy our advanced technology,” said Eric McAfee, chairman and CEO of AE Biofuels. “Our approach addresses the growing demand for advanced biofuels at both existing and new ethanol facilities. We think this flexibility will allow us to better serve the immediate needs of the biofuels industry.”
